TREATMENT APPROACH

EMDR/TRAUMA

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from emotional distress resulting from traumatic experiences.

ATTACHMENT BASED

Attachment therapy looks at the connection between early attachment with primary caregivers (parents), and aims to build healthy adult relationships that help prevent or treat anxiety or depression.

SOLUTION FOCUSED

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused therapeutic approach, which helps clients change by focusing solutions rather than problems.

EMOTION BASED

EFT encourages people to discover emotions that may be ignored, denied, or repressed. EFT helps people express emotions to foster healthy connection, rather than disconnection, in relationships.

FAMILY SYSTEMS

Family systems therapy helps individuals resolve their problems in the context of their family units. Individuals and family members work together to understand their collective dynamic and how their actions affect each other as a whole.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR

With CBT the client learns to recognize distortions in thinking that create problems, and then to reevaluate those thoughts in light of reality. Clients gain self-confidence while learning calming strategies for one’s mind and body.

PLAY THERAPY

Play therapy is a form of therapy primarily for children working through emotional and mental issues by helping children express themselves and learn about the world through their natural love of play.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Counseling?

Counseling is the process of meeting with a professionally trained therapist to resolve troublesome behaviors, feelings, relationship issues, somatic experiences, and beliefs. At PVCC (Pleasant Valley Counseling Center) our counselors integrate faith-based concepts into their sessions at the level the client prefers.

How Do I know if Counseling is for me?

It is time to see a counselor when your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors become troublesome for you and others to manage. Sometimes you begin feeling low and empty, but you’re not able to snap out of the negative patterns in your life.

What types of issues do you normally work with?

There are several reasons you might seek counseling. You may be grieving a loss of a loved one or experiencing anxiety that’s preventing you from finishing your daily tasks. You may have experienced a traumatic event that interferes with your ability to concentrate or focus. Counseling addresses a variety of issues using different methods for treatment.

What does the first session look like?

During the first session you will meet with your new counselor and go over the paperwork that you submitted through our online portal system. The counselor will ask several questions to gain clarity and understanding of your specific goals for treatment. The counselor will confirm your payment method and set up a series of appointments based on your availability. It is most common to meet weekly, but you can discuss with your counselor the frequency of your sessions.

Do I need an appointment to see a counselor?

Yes, you will need to make an appointment to see the counselor.

How do I make an appointment to see a counselor?

The best way to schedule an appointment with a counselor at PVCC is to fill out and submit the initial intake form. Once the PVCC has received the submission, the office will call and/or email to match you with a counselor and set your first appointment. Then you will receive an invitation to the client portal system asking you to create an account and fill out the full intake forms. Please fill out all intake forms prior to the session.
